
Citi India has announced the appointment of Behzad Merchant as Business Execution Lead for the India Subcontinent. This is considered a strategic move, encompassing oversight of India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. He will play a key strategic role in business-critical and regulatory initiatives and programs across the region.
With over 25 years of experience in banking, operations, technology, risk, and controls, he brings deep expertise in leading complex initiatives at scale. He served more than two decades at Citi, including a decade at Citi India. During his tenure, he played a key role in supporting markets including India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Earlier, he also spent nearly two and a half years at JPMorganChase as Executive Director, Business Risk & Controls Head – APAC Payments & India Risk & Controls Site Lead – Global Payments.
During his professional journey, he also served at Infosys and BNP Paribas, further strengthening his expertise in banking operations, risk management, and large-scale transformation initiatives. He holds his academic qualifications from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving execution excellence across the India Subcontinent.
This appointment shows Citi’s focus on continued emphasis on disciplined execution and operational resilience in a dynamic financial environment.
