FreshMenu’s Comeback: From Crisis to ₹150 Cr Revenue Milestone

Once teetering on the edge of collapse, FreshMenu returned with a remarkable revenue turnaround of ₹150 crore. This Bengaluru-based cloud kitchen startup was started by Rashmi Daga in 2014. The startup gained popularity among the people for its chef-curated meals delivered to the doorsteps of customers.

In 2019, FreshMenu faced significant challenges and competition from delivery giants, as well as operational hurdles. And then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, leading to a sharp decline in orders and revenue.

To tackle the situation, FreshMenu underwent some restructuring. The strategy focused more on operations and profitability rather than just rapid expansion. FreshMenu optimised its menu by enhancing its offerings, enhancing kitchen efficiencies, and utilising data analytics to better understand customer preferences. FreshMenu invested in technology to improve the delivery and customer experience.

“Even experts warned us that continental food would neither thrive in India nor survive the delivery process. But we persisted, focusing on perfecting the menu, packaging and pricing to remain affordable without compromising quality,” Rashmi Daga expressed in an interview.

By 2024, the strategy paid off, and FreshMenu’s operations were stabilised, and it noticed a significant growth in revenue, marking the 150 crore milestone. FreshMenu is an example of sheer resilience and adaptability that every startup should follow to create a mark in the competitive market.
