IPL 2025 Set to Resume on May 17 After Lengthy Suspension
The 2025 Indian Premier League India (IPL) was put on halt due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. After a week of suspension the tournamnet is et to begin again froom 17th May. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)) confirmed that the date of the matches.
The tournament will resume with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the last season champion Kolkata Kight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The upcoming matched are going to be held across six different cities Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The Final is scheduled at 3rd June and venue is yet to be announced.
The suspension was prompted by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the heightened militaryactivities between India and Pakistan. The BCCI in conversations with the governement and securit agencies, decided to halt the tournament for a while.
However the challenges don’t ended here. Many international player are unavailable at the moment. Australian cricketer Jake Fraser-McGurk has withdrawn from the remaining tournament for personal reasons. Overseas players may be unavaivalble due to national duties or security concerns. Thus, impacting the lineup of the teams and strategies which are now needed to be changed.
After what happened at the match hosted in Dharamsala Jake Fraser-McGurk of Delhi Capitals was the most traumatised. Drone attacks by Pakistan in the northern part of India led to air raid alarms and power cutoffs in the hill town. This happened during the match of Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings.
Sunil Gavaskar has also urged to not celebrate extravagantly like DJs and Cheerleaders for the rest of the tournament. As a getsure to pay respect to the victims ofthe recent conflict between the two nations.
