
Walmart has appointed John Furner as Chief Executive Officer. This appointment aims at accelerating Walmart’s strategic growth and innovation agenda as the world’s largest retailer navigates evolving consumer behaviour, technology advancements, and competitive pressures.
With nearly two decades of deep experience, he has held multiple leadership roles spanning experience in store operations, merchandising, sourcing, and executive leadership, shaping strategic initiatives that support Walmart’s omnichannel expansion and customer-centric focus. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer, Walmart U.S., where he led the retailer’s largest operating segment, driving growth, enhancing associate engagement, and integrating technology across retail, digital, and supply chain platforms. He spent a decade at Sam’s Club, most recently serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer at Sam’s Club.
He holds his academic qualification from the University of Arkansas. In his new role, he will oversee Walmart’s global strategy, strengthen competitive differentiation, and drive continued innovation to enhance customer and associate value.
