Airbus has announced the appointment of Jürgen Westermeier as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective September 1, 2025. Westermeier, who currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus, will succeed Rémi Maillard, who has been elevated to Executive Vice President of Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology.
In his new role, Westermeier will lead the company’s operations across all business segments in India and South Asia, including commercial aircraft, helicopters, and defence and space. His mandate includes expanding Airbus’s footprint in the region, strengthening customer relationships, scaling industrial partnerships, and enhancing digital transformation and training initiatives.
This move comes at a time when India is emerging as a critical market for Airbus, with the country’s aviation sector rapidly growing and major defence programs underway. Airbus’s collaborations under the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative will benefit from Westermeier’s expertise in industrial operations and supply chain transformation.
With over two decades of leadership experience, including his tenure at BMW Group prior to joining Airbus in 2020, Westermeier is well-positioned to drive strategic growth and reinforce Airbus’s long-term commitment to the Indian subcontinent. He earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. His leadership will play a key role in building future-ready capabilities, strengthening local talent, and supporting India’s ambition to become a global aerospace hub.
