Emphasising the importance of treating reputation as a compounding asset and handling even small matters with care, Mr. Sameer Sagar, recognized as one of the 10 Most Inspiring Legal Leaders in India 2026, shares what surprised him most about his experience as a founder and the lessons it brought along the way in an exclusive conversation with Corporate TrendZ:
“I had assumed the difficult part would be finding clients. It wasn’t. What surprised me was how much of a founder’s day has nothing to do with law. Office infrastructure, technology, insurance, billing, recruitment, appraisals, and even statutory filings for our firm all eventually reach your desk because there is no department to route them to. Learning to handle those things without allowing them to consume the time meant for client work was harder than any diligence exercise I had run.”
He further added:
“The second surprise was the responsibility towards people who join a firm and place a bet on you, leaving secure positions behind. The third lesson was that saying no is a strategic function. Early on, every instruction feels like validation, but taking work you cannot handle well can cost more than it earns. The pleasant surprise is that relationships built honestly over the years will continue to benefit you in the future. Clients remember how you behaved when a deal went wrong far more than when everything went smoothly.”
