“India’s challenge is not a lack of ambition. Its renewable energy policy is strong, and open-access and group-captive frameworks already provide developers with important tools. The greater challenge is inconsistency across states.”
She further added:
“A more uniform, time-bound approval framework for open access and captive power structures would strengthen investor confidence. Faster and more predictable transmission connectivity approvals would also help, alongside clearer regulations for storage and hybrid projects as the sector evolves. A dedicated fast-track mechanism for renewable energy commercial disputes could further improve bankability by preventing disagreements from remaining unresolved for years. The technology and capital are increasingly available. What the sector needs is greater regulatory predictability, consistency, and speed. That is where meaningful reform can have the greatest impact.”
