Vizhinjam Seaport Welcomes World’s Largest Container Ship MSC IRINA
The world’s largest container ship by Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) capacity docked at Adani’s Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala on 9th June 2025. The ship has a capacity of 24,346 TEUs, making it a leading player in global shipping.
The ship is designed for the transportation of large-volume containers between Asia and Europe. MSC IRINA plays an important role in enhancing the trade routes and logistics effortlessly while transforming the dynamics of global shipping.
“Kerala welcomes MSC IRINA, the largest container ship to call at any South Asian port, with immense pride. Measuring 399.9 m in length and 61.3 m in width, with a capacity of 24,346 TEUs, her arrival at Vizhinjam marks a historic moment. “A proud milestone that underscores our port’s strategic global role and galvanises our collective dream of growth,” shared Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on X.
Vizhinjam International Seaport is developed and maintained by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd. Recently, many Icon-class vessels like MSC Turkiye and MSC Michel Cappellini have been hosted by this port, establishing a new standard in maritime trade globally and building a reputation as a crucial hub.
Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, also shared his thoughts on X, “This marks the vessel’s maiden visit to South Asian shores, making it a milestone not just for Vizhinjam but for India’s emergence as a key player in global transshipment. A bold vision now in motion.”
The Vizhinjam International Seaport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd May 2025. The port is equipped with modern infrastructure to compete with headquarters ports like Singapore and Colombo.
