Ashwin Backs Bumrah: India’s Next Test Leader in the Making?
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s surprise retirement from Test cricket raises the question of who will become the next Indian Test team captain. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin endorsed Jasprit Bumrah as the ideal candidate to lead the team in the upcoming test series.
Bumrah has leadership qualities and the ability to inspire the team, Ashwin highlighted. This experience as a fast bowler and temperament make him a suitable choice for the captaincy.
“The team that will tour England will be an entirely new team, a transformed team where Bumrah will probably be the senior-most player. He is obviously one of the captaincy options; I think he deserves the captaincy, but the selectors will make a decision based on his physical capacity,” said Ashwin in a YouTube show.
Bumrah has captained India in Test matches, including the notable victory in Perth against Australia. His leadership portrays strategic acumen, which was praised by his fellow teammates as well as cricket analysts.
However, Shubman Gill is also a choice for the selectors as Test captain. Gill’s performance has been consistent, and his Indian Premier League India leadership shows his potential to lead. This consistency makes him a strong contender for the role.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to decide the captain soon as India prepares for the upcoming Test series. Maintaining the team’s momentum.
