KOKUYO Acquires HNI India to Strengthen Furniture Market Presence

Japanese office furniture and stationery giant Kokuyo Co., Ltd has acquired HNI Corporation India. This move highlights Kokuyo’s strategy to rapidly expand in the Asian furniture market.

Known for its design-led office furniture, HNI India is rooted in Japanese kaizen principles, operating a full-fledged facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The company reported revenue of 200 cr as of March 2025.

The Acquisition of HNI India aligns with Kukoyo’s vision that is to Change, Challenge and Create. Aiming to hit $3.5 billions net sales by 2030. With this strategy the company will focus on sustainable organic growth across work, learning, and lifestyle segments.

“This acquisition is a strategic step to accelerate our growth in India and strengthen our position in Asia. Our local manufacturing expertise, combined with Kokuyo’s global experience, will allow us to offer even more innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for flexible and hybrid workspaces.”, Karan Sachdev, MD of HNI India, shared his view on the acquisition.

This acquisition is expected to complement Kokuyo’s existing portfolio and also extend it’s global presence in the office market, especially in India where corporate sector is at peak. Leveraging HIN India’s position, infrastructure, and production will further strengthen their growth across South Asia.
