Live‑Action How to Train Your Dragon Soars with Heart—But Lacks Original Spark

Dean DeBlois came up with the iconic movie series How to Train Your Dragon in a live-action adaptation. The live action reflects the original storyline by following young Viking Hiccup and his bond with Toothless, the legendary Night Fury.

The animation of the movie has been replaced with amazing landscapes and dragons that seem like they have been pulled out of a fantasy world. Mason Thames is playing the character of Hiccup, who absolutely ruled the screen. Gerard Butler, who has also voiced Stoick in the animated series, plays the same character in the live action, the father of Hiccup.

Many viewers praise the movie for the fantastic work put into the movie. One viewer shared on X, “JUST SAW THE LIVE ACTION OF HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON AND OMG, IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. A+.”

However, the reviewers also mentioned that while the movie was “technically thorough,” it felt emotionally diluted due to pacing issues that lacked narrative freshness.

On a positive note, Hiccup and Stoick’s relationship brings a lot of warmth to the movie, particularly the scenes showcasing father-son moments. The live-action film is a great family watch with themes of empathy, teamwork, and emotional depth.
