The Namakkal poultry hub in Tamil Nadu has created history by exporting one crore eggs to the United States. This is India’s first-ever egg shipment to the US market. The eggs were dispatched last month in 21-degree temperature-controlled containers with approximately 4.7 lakh eggs in each container. The ship was deported from O Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi.
India currently exports 200 million eggs per month to Middle Eastern and African nations. Namakkal is the egg capital of India.
K Singaraj, Chairman and NECC Namakkal President of the Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers Association (TNPFA) highlighted, “We are waiting for the news of the shipment being accepted in the US. Such a development will help the poultry industry and follow strict protocols since the US market enforces some of the world’s strictest food safety, quality, and disease-control protocols.”
