According to Prof. (Dr.) Kiran Patil, meaningful research is driven by purpose. When learners witness the real-world impact of their work, they are inspired to think critically, innovate fearlessly, and pursue original ideas. With over three decades of experience, he currently serves as Provost (Vice Chancellor) – Incharge and Dean, School of Engineering at Plastindia International University.
Along with being a prolific researcher and mentor, he has authored five technical books, published more than 55 peer-reviewed research papers, guided over 100 undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral research projects, and successfully led AICTE, DST, and industry-funded initiatives.
“A strong research culture cannot be built simply by increasing publication targets. It must be nurtured through curiosity, mentorship, institutional support, and a clear connection between research and real-world impact. Students and faculty should feel encouraged to ask questions, experiment with ideas, and learn from failure.”
His unwavering commitment to academic excellence has earned him prestigious recognitions, including the Ideal Teacher Award, Shiksha Bharati Award, and Most Influential Professor Award.
He added, “Faculty members need protected time and institutional encouragement for research. Institutions should promote interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship while ensuring research remains connected to industry and society. When learners see their work creating tangible impact, their motivation for original inquiry becomes significantly stronger.”
