Is Whatsapp going to show ads? We all are in this dilemma as Whatsapp is the go-to platform for many of us because it is free and convenient. The recent news about WhatsApp ads has caught the eyes of every one.

After maintaining an ad-free experience for over a decade, Whatsapp is now following the footprint of its parent company display ads for its 3 billion users. But where exactly will these ads show up? Will these ads show up on the chats also? Well, no.

The ads will appear solely in the Updates Section previously called Status. This integration will not affect chats, calls, or group messages which is fully encrypted and Meta itself doesn’t have the permission to access those.

Meta confirmed that “Subscriptions, promotions and ads will appear only on the Updates tab, away from your personal chats. This means if you only use WhatsApp to chat with friends and loved ones, there will be no change to your experience at all.”

Further continuing, “Like everything else on WhatsApp, we’ve built these features in the most privacy-oriented way possible. Your personal messages, calls and statuses remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning no one can see or hear them. That includes Meta.”

After this announcement, Meta’s stock price has also surged, reflecting investors confidence on the decision. This will help brands to reach their niche audience as well. Meta has confirmed that they don’t share or sell phone numbers to advertisers. The personal messaging space will not be determined for the ads. Over the upcoming months they will be pulling strategies via businesses and Chanel admins to get started.
