In a ground breaking moment for space travel, Blue Origin successfully launched and landed its first all-female crew on April 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone in both aerospace and cultural history. Among the six-member team was global pop icon Katy Perry, who joined a diverse group of women aboard the New Shepard rocket for an 11-minute suborbital journey.
The mission, designated NS-31, lifted off from Blue Origin’s launch site in West Texas and carried the crew past the Kármán line, the recognised boundary of space, offering a few minutes of weightlessness before a smooth return to Earth.
The crew included journalist Gayle King, Jeff Bezos’s partner and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and producer Kerianne Flynn. Together, they became the first all-women team to reach space since the days of Valentina Tereshkova in 1963.
Adding a touch of flair to the historic moment, the crew wore custom-designed flight suits by Monse, blending space-age functionality with bold fashion.
A crowd of celebrities and supporters, including Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom, witnessed the mission. More than a spaceflight, the journey stood as a bold statement of empowerment, inclusivity, and the boundless potential of women in space exploration.
