Bye-Bye Toll Gates and Long Queues: Nitin Gadkari Announces New GPS-Based Toll Policy

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has recently announced that toll plazas across India will soon be a thing of the past. A new GPS-based toll collection system is set to roll out next month, aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting highway efficiency.

As part of this major overhaul, vehicles will be charged based on the distance travelled, eliminating the need for traditional toll booths. “The central government will soon introduce a new toll policy. I won’t reveal much now, but we will announce it within the next 15 days. Once implemented, there will be no reason to complain about tolls,” Gadkari stated.

The policy’s foundation lies in successful pilot tests using number plate recognition and GPS tracking. With over 97% FASTag adoption already in place, the government is confident about moving towards a seamless, booth-free toll collection system nationwide.
