Trump Issued a Travel Ban for Citizens From 12 Nations
President Trump has issued a proclamation enforcing a travel ban on nationals from 12 countries. The ban comes from the national security threat to the country. The White House stated that the decision was made according to the intelligence and assessments that suggest potential risks associated with individuals entering the United States from these countries.
The countries that are affected by the full travel ban include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Yemen. Furthermore, partial travel restrictions have been imposed on citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
The travel ban and restrictions restrict travellers from these countries. However, the visas that were issued before will not be revoked. The administration cited high visa overstay rates and a lack of cooperation in accepting removable nationals.
This highlights how President Trump’s administration is focused on maintaining immigration and security measures. The ban is expected to affect the visa issuances and travel plans from the listed countries.
“We cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen… That is why today I am signing a new executive order placing travel restrictions on countries including Yemen, Somalia, Haiti, Libya, and numerous others,” said President Trump.
